Juan Santamaría International Airport will open 3 self bag drop stations in late August 2024, AERIS, the terminal’s operator, confirmed in response to a question from LaMochiladeKike.
At first, the stations will be exclusively for Avianca, which will make them available to its passengers.
To use the service, passengers first have to use the self check-in kiosks to print their bag tag.
After that, they scan the baggage receipt, weigh the bag, verify that the tags match, and drop it off directly at the checked baggage station.

The self bag drop service is a pilot program that was originally slated to start in March 2024 with 8 stations, according to what was announced, but after delays it has been cut back to 3 stations.
According to AERIS, once these first stations are in place, it hopes to keep installing more over the course of the year.
Self bag drop technology is used at a large number of airports around the world, where travelers handle the entire process of checking their bags themselves.
On top of the self bag drop technology, Juan Santamaría Airport opened 30 new self check-in kiosks in the terminal in recent days.
With these new stations, the Juan Santamaría terminal now has 75 self check-in kiosks for all passengers, with 15 airlines offering the service.
