Iberojet Checked Baggage: Which Fares Include It and What It Costs

Iberojet only includes checked baggage in its Economic and Flex fares, with 1 bag of up to 23 kg. The Basic fare doesn’t include one and neither does Turista+, so on the Madrid and Costa Rica route you’d pay €80 or $100 online for your first bag, at November 2026 prices.

Since August 2023, the airline no longer includes a free checked bag as a benefit for passengers flying with the Turista+ option. Airline representatives in Madrid confirmed this to LaMochiladeKike, pointing to the rollout of the new policy.

In other words, if you’re the type who wants this airline’s cheapest flights (the Basic category), you won’t get a checked bag even if you upgrade to Turista+.

Which Iberojet Fares Include Checked Baggage?

The only way to get a checked bag included in the price is to buy the Economic or Flex category. All three fares come with a 10 kg carry-on, but Basic doesn’t include a checked bag and doesn’t allow cancellations either. Economic and Flex include 1 piece and allow you to cancel with a penalty up to 30 and 15 days before, respectively.

On bookings with a connection, the Economic / Standard fare includes a checked bag of up to 23 kg, but it doesn’t allow date changes or cancellations. The rest is in Iberojet’s fare conditions.

How Much Iberojet Checked Baggage Costs

These are the prices as of November 2026 for Madrid and Costa Rica, Madrid and El Salvador, and Barcelona and El Salvador. Other routes are on Iberojet’s baggage page.

BagOnlineAt the airport
Medium, up to 15 kg€65 / $80€90 / $110
First 23 kg bag€80 / $100€160 / $190
Second 23 kg bag€100 / $120€160 / $190
Third 23 kg bag€140 / $160€160 / $190
Extra large, up to 32 kg€150 / $180€170 / $200

In euros, paying for your first bag online costs half of what it does at the airport, where the counter price also takes precedence. If you add it in the 72 hours before the flight, a €10 or $10 surcharge goes on top of the online fare, and if you need more bags than are available on the website, Iberojet can help at +34 930 349 241.

In 2023 the airline told this outlet that the charge applied to each leg of the trip, so confirm that when you add the bag. If you’re going to check a bag, add that cost to the price of each ticket when you compare flights.

Weight and Size Limits in Iberojet’s Baggage Policy

Each checked bag can weigh 23 kg, which can be increased to 32 kg at an extra cost, and pieces over 32 kg aren’t accepted. For size, the limit is 158 cm when you add up height, width, and length, including handles and wheels.

Anything over 158 cm counts as oversized baggage, which can’t exceed 200 cm on any side and requires authorization before the flight. It carries a charge of €150 or $180 at the airport, and whether it’s accepted depends on the space available on long-haul flights.

Infants 0 to 2 don’t get a checked baggage allowance, and on connecting flights you should also check the other airline’s limits, since they may differ.

Iberojet asks you not to pack money, jewelry, computers, electronic devices, or important documents in your checked bag. Spare batteries can’t be checked either. What does go in the cabin is covered in Iberojet’s carry-on size limits.

What to Do If Your Iberojet Bag Doesn’t Arrive or Is Damaged

Go to the Lost & Found or baggage counter before leaving the arrivals area and ask for a PIR (Property Irregularity Report). Hold on to it, since Iberojet needs it to process your request.

You have 7 days from receiving your bag to file a damage claim, and 21 days from when it’s delivered to you to file a delay claim. For the first 5 days, follow up with the office at the airport where you filed the report. After that, write to baggage.services@iberojet.com.

Iberojet doesn’t compensate for scuffs, stains, or damage to handles and wheels from normal use. The full process is on its baggage issues page.

What Iberojet Turista+ Includes Today

Turista+ is a package you can add during booking or afterward from the booking management area, and its services depend on availability. It includes:

  • At the airport: priority check-in, priority boarding, Fast Track, and priority baggage delivery. Iberojet notes that Fast Track applies to departures from Madrid, Barcelona, and Lisbon, and priority delivery to bookings with a checked bag.
  • On board: a travel kit and headphones, a Premium blanket and pillow set, and a Premium welcome drink, the last of these on flights from Spain and Portugal.
  • Food: a Premium menu, a cold snack or breakfast on overnight flights, snacks between services, two Premium drinks with meals, and soft drinks, water, juice, coffee, and tea during the flight.

As of July 2026, Iberojet flew to Madrid from Juan Santamaría International Airport on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and it announced a third weekly flight on Thursdays starting in late November.

It’s important to know about this policy so you can avoid any trouble when you travel.
