Iberojet Tightens Its Baggage Policy, and Flying With Them Could Cost You More

Iberojet, the airline that flies from Costa Rica to Madrid, says it will tighten its baggage policy for people flying with them. It confirmed the news after complaints from travelers.

The change involves the weight of the personal item and carry-on bag, which are included in all of the airline’s fares.

From now on, they will weigh both your personal item and your carry-on to make sure that the two combined don’t exceed 10 kilos.

If you go over that weight, you’ll have to pay the corresponding penalty, which can run as high as €150.

Keep in mind that when you buy your ticket, it says the carry-on can weigh up to 10 kilos. But with this change, that’s no longer the case.

Iberojet representatives confirmed the information in response to questions from LaMochiladeKike, saying that “unfortunately, airports have been very flexible on the baggage issue.”

They added that “with the change in management, starting a few weeks ago, we are trying to comply with everything that’s been established.”

It’s important to note that this information appears on the airline’s website, in a section separate from ticket purchases, but travelers aren’t told directly when they buy one.

Most airlines don’t weigh the personal item and go by size instead. That’s the case with Iberia, a direct competitor of Iberojet.

This means that if you fly Iberojet, your personal item can’t exceed 20 cm x 35 cm x 30cm and must fall within the 10-kilo carry-on allowance.
