Wingo to Launch Direct Flight to Medellín with Fares from $114 Each Way

Starting December 18, Wingo will launch two direct flights from Juan Santamaría International Airport to Medellín, Colombia, landing at José María Córdova International Airport.

At first, Wingo’s flights will operate only on Thursdays and Saturdays, with a launch fare of $114 each way.

The flight will leave Costa Rica at 1:43 a.m. and arrive in Medellín at 4:49 a.m.

The return flight leaves Medellín at 11:57 p.m. and arrives in Costa Rica at 12:58 a.m.

If you want to buy tickets, you can do so on the airline’s website.

This Wingo flight to Medellín is the airline’s second route to Colombia, since it currently also flies to Bogotá.

“More Costa Ricans will want to visit Medellín, and many more Colombians, particularly paisas, will want to travel to see the natural wonders Costa Rica has to offer,” said Jorge Jiménez, Wingo’s VP of Commercial and Planning.

According to data from the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT), Colombia is the third most popular country for Costa Ricans to travel to, after the United States and Panama.

During the first nine months of 2024, a total of 107,000 Costa Ricans traveled to Colombia, the ICT said.

If you’re thinking about traveling to Medellín or any other Colombian city, keep in mind that starting January 11, 2025, the yellow fever vaccine will be mandatory for all travelers leaving Costa Rica.

A change to the rules for this vaccine says it applies to any city in Colombia you visit, and not just with certain exceptions as it did before.
