5.6 Million Passengers Used Juan Santamaría Airport in 2023

A total of 5,682,476 passengers passed through Juan Santamaría International Airport during 2023, the highest figure in the last 10 years.

According to figures from Aeris, the airport’s operator, the previous peak came in 2019, when it reached 5.1 million passengers.

That means 2023 beat that pre-pandemic mark by about 600,000 passengers.

The airport’s peak periods included March through April, July through August, and December 2023.

On top of that, December was reported as the terminal’s busiest month, with more than 576,000 passengers.

This figure has been growing since 2020, when the numbers fell because of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

“Throughout 2024, we’ll keep strengthening our connections with the world by taking part in various industry events so that international tourists can travel to Costa Rica more easily,” said Erick Barboza, AERIS’s director of business development.

For Juan Santamaría Airport, the 2023 figures are the result of coordinated work with government authorities and airlines.
