If you’re the type who needs to plan vacation days well in advance, here are Costa Rica’s public holidays for 2024.
Keep in mind that this is the last year some holidays get moved to a Monday to create long weekends and encourage tourism.
Only two dates move to create a long weekend in 2024, and the rest will be observed on their actual calendar date.

With that in mind, here’s the official list of 2024 holidays in Costa Rica, along with whether each one is observed on the day itself or moved.
- Monday, January 1: New Year’s Day
- Thursday, March 28: Holy Week
- Friday, March 29: Holy Week
- Thursday, April 11: Battle of Rivas (moved to Monday, April 15, for a long weekend)
- Wednesday, May 1: Labor Day
- Thursday, July 25: Annexation of the District of Nicoya (moved to Monday, July 29, for a long weekend)

- Saturday, August 31: Day of the Afro-Costa Rican Person
- Sunday, September 15: Independence Day

Keep in mind that this is the list of Costa Rica’s holidays for 2024, but not all of them are mandatory paid days off.
The holidays without mandatory pay are August 2, August 31, and December 1.
