Avianca has confirmed that its direct flight between Costa Rica and Venezuela will no longer be available starting in March 2024.
The company told the newspaper La Nación as much, citing low passenger numbers on the route.
The airline blames the visa that Costa Rica’s government requires of Venezuelan citizens to enter the country.
According to its website, the last direct flight will take place on February 29.

Keep in mind that if you want to fly to Venezuela with Avianca, you still can, just not nonstop.
Information on its official website shows the route to Venezuela will have a layover in Bogotá.
This direct flight had launched this past December 16 from Juan Santamaría International Airport, with fares starting at $200 round trip.
At the time, Avianca said the flights would run on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with a total of 180 passenger seats.
Avianca hadn’t flown directly from Costa Rica to Venezuela since 2017 because of the political situation there.
The airline reiterated that, in line with instructions from the US Department of Transportation, air service between Venezuela and the US is not available.
