Avianca has announced that starting July 1, 2024, it will reduce the dimensions it accepts for personal items on its flights.
All travelers will have to adjust to the new dimensions, which are 5 centimeters smaller in the item’s width.
That means the new dimensions will be 45 centimeters high x 35 centimeters long x 20 centimeters wide. (It used to be 25 centimeters wide.)
Keep in mind that a personal item can be a backpack, a knapsack, a diaper bag, a purse, or a package that fits within these dimensions.
Avianca has also said that if a personal item goes over these dimensions, the airline has the right to charge extra.
In other words, if your item is over the limit, you’ll have to pay for it as a carry-on or as a checked bag.
The airline says the sizing devices at airports have already been changed to make sure passengers comply.
Keep in mind that a personal item is included free of charge in all of the airline’s fares.
This change from Avianca comes after it modified its fare families in recent months, joining the “low-cost” airline model.
